At Mission most racers run out of talent before hp. With so few "actual racers" in the club I would suggest combining as many classes as possible. Would you rather have more racing against more bikes or your name on some cheap plaques at the end of the season? If you are worried about the WMRC becoming a track day club that has already happened to some extent with the racing. With low entry numbers of varying talent racing is more like a track day if you don't have anyone to race against - racing just costs more and the club loses money!
From when I spoke with my engine builder a few years ago, he told me that supersport legal 2nd gen SVs were getting between 80-83 HP depending on fuel. If you really wanted to limit the field you would run it as production. The reality is that the guys with the 2 biggest SV builds (me and dean) are fat lazy desk jockeys who run out of steam shortly before we run out of talent.
Summary so far: We have two bikes on the grid that have built motors + other mods. We have bikes on the grid that have supersport motors but other non supersport mods. We have bikes on the grid that are 100 % supersport spec. Nobody piped up and said they have a bone stock SV. It's ok to race against a 90-95HP bike because the guys riding them run out of steam/talent. My questions to you: 1. Would you still be ok racing against the same 90-95HP bike ridden by a guy who doesn't run out of steam and can slide both tires in all corners? 2. How about racing against two or three guys like that? cheers alex
From what I can see on track intell results from 2015, largest grid for the BOTT MWT clas was 9 bikes. Alex claims that two of these bikes have "built motors + other mods", along with some bikes that have "supersport motors but other non supersport mods and some bikes that are 100%supersport spec. Of the 7 other bikes is it half that are 100%? Also are we suggesting that the motor is the only thing that needs to be supersport? I am wondering because I am trying to wrap my head around what the grid would look like with the new rule in place.
Last time I checked there was no one at Mission sliding both tires out of any corner unless it's a crash or someone heard there was discount sandwiches being sold at the food truck and was high tailing it back to the pits. Just let everyone race and have fun, it's just as simple as that. Office politics ruins the fun in everything......... bitches (deep movie guy voice)
This rule proposal would certainly keep me away from racing. Of course I'm just one of the riders, but if this went through, I wouldn't bother with the SV. Ryan is right. We both have built bikes, and we both are likely to outweigh the field too. Eddie can join us because he is old too Seriously though, I'll just go on the record saying that I am very much against this proposal. Hell, I have ridden a big bike on a track in a year as I skipped last season including track days. I'm going to come back running solid 1:22s or higher.
If we are talking SV650s, a GSXR front end makes the biggest difference. Stock SV has no compression or rebound damping adjustment. It takes aftermarket caps to get preload adjustment.
So this would effectively remove at least 4 guys from the class reducing it in size by half? IIRC correctly I don't think last year or even the year before any of the races were uncontested run away victories?
They weren't. It was always close races regardless of bike builds. The GSXR suspension makes the largest difference for certain!
since most people in the class are chiming in here why don't we just vote on it now. Im against the rule change.
I vote let the boys play!!!! Who cares, we pay money, we have fun, we win, we lose, we go back to work and have stories to either lament about or lie about later in life. Not everyone gets to do that so relax, pop a few cold ones and let's just enjoy the short ride on this big blue marble.
Yes talented riders both of them, but the topic is the BOTT class. As far as I know, neither of the riders you mentioned plan to compete at the WMRC in that class. So why bring it up? I slide both tires through 4 on my 300, and that has no effect on the BOTT class.
I wont be running in that class...im against it....it should have stayed the way it was years ago....sv cup same bike down to battle of the rider....
