So I am going to be riding in the 250 class as a new racer and am just looking for some information. Does the bike have to be an ex250/zzr250 or cbr250? Can you run with no fairing at all, just number plates? I understand it is supposed to be a stock engine.. is that still the case? I read something about more slack rules so we could get some seattle area riders involved.. Other than the engine does anything else have to be stock? Do you need/recommend an speedo/tach? The 2012 rule book has not been released yet right? I am taking the racer training course in april and I am sure I could get some of these questions answered then but I want to get a bike ready and prepped. I cant think of any more right now but I am sure I will post more. Cheers Ross
Don't quote me on this because as you say the 2012 rules aren't offical yet. Modifications allowed would be similar to what you can do under the supersport rules in the 2011 rule book, Stock motor and most other things. Any street legal production 250 4 stroke sold in Canada. I understand Kawasaki and Honda are offering support and prize money so they would be preferred I guess. Doesn't need fairings, just numberplates.
There were no restrictions on tires last year and the Supersport rules have no restrictions so I would guess you can use what you want. Wait for the rules to be official though.
Ok just for the fun What about a moriwaki MD250H We are running a CRF250R motor .....bone stock motor at home.... Haha What would be the recommended class Thinking we could run stock classes and modified classes at the same time That is if there are any other MODIFIED 250's Waiting for some info like...... Run singles, twins, etc
Graham, unfortunately with the demise of Formula 3 there is not a true competitive class for your Morawaki. The performance index for 250 production is more in line with a 85cc gp bike (I'm sure you have seen these at Portland) than a 125GP class machine. It would be great to see you in BOTT(includes singles) and Middleweight Superbike. You wouldn't be anywhere near last in either.
was thinking of running the 450 in one of those just hoping that the GSXR 1000 exhaust will help noise stock pipe on Mori is 95d and on speedy it is 97d that is what I use in portland the GSXR pipe on the 600 and 750 fours is very quiet will use the Mainland Dyno Days to test sounds to compair ..... or ??????? haha
It would be great to see the Moriwaki out there but the 250 production class is just that, a class for 250 street legal bikes sold in Canada. Don't think the Moriwaki comes close to that. Hope you find a class it fits in though, I would love to see it out there.
so you guys know, honda is only paying out canadian racer for the 250 class. if you guys are worried about what mods you can do to your bike. do what i'm going to do, keep it 100% stock and learn how to ride faster. gram you bike would run in the battle of the twin or f118. there's nothing stock on your bike gram. welll that's what you keep telling me.
c'mon man, I saw your bike at the show. You didn't even have any foot controls on it! That isn't stock. You must have some kind of race cvt installed, no gears to shift, and no foot pegs further reducing weight. Probably allowing you to create a new riding style with your feet up on the tail section, superman style! I think that may be considered streamlining
Dave's bike doesn't need any mods... his power to weight ratio will make him very fast. Not having to drag his boots around the track will make him even faster. Expect the rules committee to introduce a ballast rule for 250 riders after next season. I'm planning on getting a 250 before you guys get too good! The question is Honda or Kawasaki? Both are great bikes... it will be interesting to see which one takes the title.
hey, the bike has 23 horse. i thought i would do the flinstone thing to get more power out of it. i'm 135lb , so i'm heavy for a vietnamese guy.
And if you honda guys don't want to keep it stock check this out: http://www.moriwaki.co.jp/2010newproduct/CBR250R/CBR250R-CUSTOMPARTS.html
I found this on an old thread What are different about the rules this year? Is there going to be a section like this in the 2012 rule book?
You could run slicks in the 250 class last year so I don't think they will take that away. This year is a bit more complicated as there is a 250 class at Mission with WMRC and there is the 250 cup which is being organized by Scott Borthwick at Inside Racing School. The 250 cup sounds like it will have races at Mission and at the Greg Moore track in Chilliwack. There may be different rules for each track or one set of "Cup" rules that may differ from what you could run at Mission. If a tire manufacturer wants to sponser the class then you may be running their tires for better contingency money. Lots of questions still to be answered but it's only the beginning of February.
Oh, sorry forgot your question. Yes there should be a section in the 2012 rule book for the 250 class.
