Just reading through the 2011 rules and had a question on this... What is streamlining? Does that mean the front fender can be attached to the rider or the rider's helmet?
Streamlining? Well would something like this be allowed?? Only if it was attached to the rider of course.
Reading the rule the spirit of it is "No streamlining will be attached to the bike, the rider or the rider's helmet, front fenders are exempt". Over the years of rewriting the rules I am sure that "bike" got missed. Marbod is pointing out what the rule was put in place to avoid. Heavily streamlined bikes may be faster on the salt flats but they really don't like crosswinds or other bikes close to them. The rule is to avoid you putting extra wings, extensions or other bodywork that would potentially make your bike unstable and create a lot more of a mess if you crashed.
