88db. 4 characters that are very important to our club. 88db is the limit, and we race within it. Since we've implemented the rule, complaints against our club are no longer a concern. That was 5 years ago, and was a very unpopular decision by our club. Al Beck, past president, took a lot of crap over that decision, but that decision also kept us at the track. Now that 5 years have past, Europe has also implemented quite a few restrictive sound laws. As a result many aftermarket exhaust manufacturers have really brought their exhaust noise down over the last few years. Enough that we might want to try to allow *some* aftermarket systems in on our 750cc and under inline4 race bikes. Remember, that it's not only the decibel level, but also the pitch or note that the exhaust system makes that can cause complaints as well. In an effort to try to bring some riders back to us, we will allow aftermarket exhaust systems for the next 2 rounds as an experiment. These systems will face the same and possibly a little more scrutiny with regards to sound. I've been told by many riders that these new systems are *quieter* than stock. Here's your chance to prove it! Any bikes that wish to try will be allowed through tech, however, as they approach even 87db, the rider will be warned. 88db or over and they will be meat-balled. If the experiment is successful, we will list those systems approved to work with inline4s if possible. Note, this does not mean your old Hindle or whatever you have sitting in the back of the garage will work with us again. It will have to be one of the newer modern systems that passes our scrutiny. If it fails, we just fall back to normal. I've already cleared this with race director Dave, and track representative Al.
If you are planning to come out with a pipe or aftermarket system in a 600 or 750 inline4, please let us know here what you are planning to use. It would be nice to get a gauge on what we might be looking at. Again, we are going to be VERY strict about what gets passed and what doesn't. We can't afford to lose our track due to noise complaints, but neither can we not look forward and not test either. Please come with an open mind, and if we do say no, then gracefully accept it. We are trying to move forward and not create an environment that we all cannot enjoy.
You might also want to bring your stock system as well in case you cannot pass sound requirements. That way your day will still be salvageable.
I would venture a guess that the CBR600RR and ZX6R (05 - 08) are still going to shriek like crazy with the short little can.
750's have always been allowed to run aftermarket exhausts. It's only been inline 4's(and Triples) below the 750cc displacement that were required to run stock mufflers.
The rules state in every class that a 750 is allowed: all inline multi cylinder four strokes up to 750cc are required to have a stock unmolested muffler with mechanical baffles in place So, it's 600s and 750s as well.
Sound meters are always at the track, and we are always checked, regardless of a WCSS trackday or a WMRC race day. However, race days are different as the pace is usually upped quite a bit, so sound really doesn't come into play on trackdays as much.
How did this trial run go, by the way? I haven't been to Mission since May and was just curious if there was some success with trying the aftermarket exhausts again.
