You probably see posts every now and then that refer to a new WMRC class called Formula Classic. The new rule book will describe it in detail, but I will attempt to give it a quick explanation here. Just in case some of you want to jump on the bandwagon! Formula Classic is a return to grassroots club-racing. A catch all class, that can serve as a cheap introduction to racing, yet allow you to grow your skills and be very competitive. Basically any bike is eligible! From the old Nortons and BSA's to Ninja250's and EX500's everything is welcome. For obvious reasons we exclude anything modern that is 600cc+. You have plenty of classes to race those in! The rules are simple. Your bike must be under 88db's. If it's a 4 stroke, you must have a belly-pan. And the bike has to be race prepped in accordance to WMRC tech rules. We accommodate bikes from 4 periods Vintage - up to 1972 70's - 1972-1979 80's - 1980-1989 modern 1989-2011 (550 cc and under only!) Pretty basic when you think about it. A set of tyres should last you the season. A few drops of rain will still send you to pre-grid as opposed to the tyre changing machine. And potential race bikes are cheap and abundant given the wide range of model years allowed. Most of our bikes are also eligible for Middleweight Superbike, and Middleweight Twins. Seat time galore! You will still do battle with your fellow Formula Classic riders, maybe even pick off some slower modern bikes, and come off the track with a big smile on your face (and some money still left in your wallet)! In a nutshell - cheap, fun racing! Are you sold on this yet? cheers alex
I have to agree, this is class of racing can by entry, intermediate, to expert and can be done on the cheap. There are so many bikes that will fall into this category and the price of these bikes is very reasonable. For example, I picked up a friends gs500 as a back up for $500.00. Get into racing for a dollar a cc???? now that's a deal! Really looking forward to racing this class this year!
