Jackie and I were right behind him when he went down and to see him lying there limp and knocked out didn't look good. I also hope that he's okay and wish him well for a total recovery.
Alex was taking his truck and bike back last night. I left a message but don't know yet. I'll post up as soon as I know. Hopefully he is ok and probably sporting one hell of a head ache. Don't like to see bad things happen to good people.
WOW!, ok i sign out and get a call: Hans is ok. He was kept overnight for observation at the hospital. He has a broken collar bone and some bruising to his leg. His wife went to the hospital yesterday and one of his friends went to the track to pick up all his stuff. He is in good spirits and apparently was already talking about how he could fix the bike. Heal quick Hans.
Heal up fast, I will be sitting around the house if you want to talk collar bones or racing! I broke my left how about you?
Great news that he is home and healing. I was out on track with Andre and the paramedics and he sure had a 'moment' when I was talking to him. Hans, get that bike fixed and get back out there soon.
Hello to all of you. Thank you so much for the concerns. To start with, I am doing OK. Broke my collar bone and have some bruises, but not too bad at all. The cat-scan showed no head or brain injuries. I do not remember the details of the crash, just that I lost the front-end and flew over the handlebars. Apparently I have been out for a minute or so as well. Its Tuesday noon and I am just home. Like to say thank you to anyone involved in helping me directly after the crash and taking me to hospital. A special thanks to Alex, George and maybe few others that took care of loading up my belongings. Not to forget Kevin, who brought my stuff home. Glad your feeling ok. When we picked your bike up, the front wheel was locked solid, rotor was blue and the pads coming apart due to the heat.
Interesting fact. On Saturday morning I burned up a new set of no name break pads in 2 practice sessions. (2x had to go wide in turn one and also missed turn three) Apparently cheap no brand quality. I bought a set of EBC pads from RMR ans flushed the oil for fresh DOT 4. I had to push back the pistons to install the caliper and I recall not verifying the fluid level in the master cylinder. May have been far much and causing the lock-up after few laps of hard braking ??? Still guessing as I cannot remember the seconds before the crash.
Not sure but you need to figure it out before you ride again, obviously. It could be a faulty brake hose, sticking pistons or maybe too much fluid. Glad your feeling better.
I've seen that happen with an incorrect brake lever. They looked identical to the naked eye but the pivot point geometry was slightly different and did not allow all the fluid to return to the reservoir after squeezing the lever. It took about 2 laps to jack the calipers shut and completely lock up the brakes.
Hi Jimmy, Thank you for this input. All makes sense. As I had bad brakes initially on Saturday morning I replaced also my brake lever that had better adjustment options. A replacement look alike that looked to fit fine, but not original. In the second race of the day I had to quit after 3-4 laps as I felt loosing power on the straight at start finish (bike started slowing down on full throttle) Did however not notice brakes dragging in my slow lap to the pits. This new info however explains why I could not not find a faulty carb or ignition failure. And of course by slowing down and getting in the pits brakes cooled down and did not drag next day morning at first. Front-end took me out in 3rd lap at turn 3 just hitting the brakes. Hopefully I can remember one day what really happened. As soon as I can use my right hand I will try to find out !! Thank you for this unexpected input !
Yeah, BE VERY carefull about levers, some look the same but they just apply the MC, causing what happened to you, I've seen it too many times to count. Actually happened to my friends R1, luckily he didn't crash.
