For the guys who do tech inspection at the races.... This is very hard, thick epoxy that has been layered onto the engine cases. Will this pass tech inspection or do I have to buy some woodcraft covers? Thanks I have better pictures if necessary
If you hit it with a hammer, what happens? How thick is it? What kind of epoxy? I am worried its softer than case covers and will grind thru fairly easily.
Well, I sent an email to the racer who sold this bike to me. He says "If had to commit to giving it a specific brand name, 2 part epoxy, 24 hour cure time, drill able and machineable. Looked like JB weld to me, came in 2 small tubes originally for attaching carbon case covers. which offer no protection. That stuff is harder than any aluminum case cover and by far more durable than alum.. You could tap a couple of holes in it and bolt on a alum or steel plate. Like wood craft does. Case covers at tech are always subject to the tech inspector, keep in mind you also have a rigid vortex rearset and frame slider to protect the side of the engine." When I hit it with a hammer, it rebounds hard and sounds like metal. It appears to be at least 5mm thick and quite a bit thicker in some spots. And yes Bernie it is covered by the fairings The guy who sold me the bike teaches the race school out in Gimli, MB so I would think he knows his stuff....
Well he might know his stuff but every club is different, Tell you what, I'll let you run it for the first weekend then I'll have a better look while your there and decide if I like it enough for you to run the season.
