In the process of getting ready for racing this weekend I exchanged my leo vince carbon can for a repacked stock can. Unfortunately the 'stock' can does not appear to have enough packing and I may blow over the db limit. I have a silencing plug for the leo vince can but the rules say that I need to run a stock can so this is not an option......unless someone on the exec can make an exception for this weekend. The only apparent solution is to buy a used stock can that has not been repacked. In order for it to fit the leo vince pipe I need to have a 5 inch custom flange cut off the modified stock can I have and then welded onto the new (to me) stock can. This work needs to be done today or early friday or else I wont be able to race this weekend. If anyone here has welding skills and could help me out it would be greatly appreciated.....failing this a suggestion for a reasonably priced welder that could do the job would be the next best thing
Is it titanium, aluminum or steel? Mr. Sushi on BCSB can do Ti, I can help if you need steel welded, and maybe aluminum.
Sadly, we cannot bend the rules about the stock can, even for a rider as dedicated to the club as you Lance. I would do it if I could, but we could very easily lose the track over noise, so we have to take a very hard line over all this. Now with that said, Jimi Toth, owner at JFC Steel can easily do this. He was/is one of ours who is taking a break from racing. His website is: http://jfcsteel.ca/Welcome.html Perhaps you can convince him to assist you on short notice? Tell him his friends at the WMRC recommended him.
No.....the Leo mid pipe is a larger diameter and the elbow/flange from the can has to be big enough to fit around the pipe.....the stock one won't work. The flange on the modified stock can I have is custom and it fits snug around the pipe.
I understand the sound issues and I didn't think there would be much chance of an exception. Thank you for the suggestion regarding Jimi.
Is this Sean Miletich's old bike? Sounds like the setup he had. The flange bolted to a stock GSXR 1000 can from 03-04. A new stock can should bolt right up to the flange. There is no packing in the stock mufflers, its all mechanical baffles.
This is for the ZX6......I am hoping to keep the Leo system on the bike because it is much lighter than the stock header. Thanks for the suggestion.
So.....it appears I have found a can......and Jimi is available to help me out.....hopefully all goes to plan and I am ready for Saturday.
Well....I got another stock can. However, Jimi didn't think we could do it without having the bike there to make it all line up and my bike was already out in the valley so it didn't happen as hoped. Today I am going to pick up the bike and try to get it done out in the valley but I am only 50/50 on whether I am going to make it out to ride this w/e. If not.....I will do some corner work.
Thank you for the offer...it is very generous. I decided to skip the rush and aggravation of trying to get it done. I will be doing corner work tomorrow and possibly Sunday as well.
