THE CMRA WELCOMES YOU TO ROUNDS 5&6 OF THE WESTERN CANADIAN CHAMPIONSHIP!

To all the racers from the WMRC and EMRA clubs, welcome to Rounds 5 and 6 of the Western Canadian Championship series! So far, both of these clubs have done a fantastic job of hosting the first 4 rounds of the series. The CMRA is looking forward to hosting the final rounds on the September 19 and 20th weekend.

    Practice:
The hottest topic from our visitors has been practice. I have received many emails and phone calls asking for a Friday practice day. Unfortunately this will not happen. Race City Speedway in Calgary is often booked 7 days a week by various clubs and user groups. In December, we finalized our dates well before the WCC was envisioned. The September weekend is a double header with a full race schedule both days and normally two morning practice sessions. By the time the WCC was finalized, the track had been rented by another party for Friday September 18. To accommodate the new riders, the CMRA is adding a third practice sessions Saturday morning rather than the normal 2 sessions. It will start our race day a little bit later but will hopefully help a bit for those visiting our track for the first time. For those who have the luxury of flexible schedule, BGPR is having a track afternoon/evening on Wednesday September 16 starting at 2pm.

    Registration:
The CMRA strongly recommends pre-registration, which closes Thursday afternoon. You have a choice of paying online in advance via PayPal or you can pay in person on Saturday via cheque or cash (no credit card at the track). Regardless of whether you pay in advance or on Saturday, you should fill out your registration information IN ADVANCE. We encourage EVERY racer to pre-register for 2 reasons. We have minimal volunteers available race morning for registration, you will avoid the $35 late registration charge, and you can go right to Tech Inspection where your sheet will be waiting rather than spending the entire practice session standing in line to register. Not pre-registering will put a rush on both yourself and registration volunteers. Again, if you are concerned about either payment or cancelling, you have nothing to lose by pre-registering and paying when you arrive. Just remember no credit cards at the track.

To register go to www.roadracing.org and click on ?Registration and Results?. That is where you will sign up. Normally there is a $35 visiting racer fee that CMRA is waiving for the WCC Double Header. You will need your dbComm transponder number as well as bike details. We have a very limited number of rental transponders so we recommend you ensure you have one available long before the race weekend.

    Tech Inspection:
The CMRA will have extra tech inspectors working to ensure the higher volume of bikes than normal get inspected in a timely manner. We will make every effort to get our visitors inspected in time to get the full practice sessions in. Please note that we do inspect helmets, leathers, boots, gloves and back/spine protectors.

You can review all the technical requirements in our rule book which can be found here: http://www.roadracing.org/about_us/rules-forms.html and is titled ?CMRA COMPETITION RULE BOOK?.

    WCC and CMRA Classes:
As decided at the beginning, the WCC classes were designed to fit into the local clubs classes. Following is a list of the WCC Classes and the race class to enter at the CMRA:

    WCC: Intermediate 600 Supersport
    CMRA: Middleweight Amateur

    WCC: Expert 600 Supersport
    CMRA: Middleweight Expert

Please note that these 2 classes race together as Race #7 on our Schedule

    WCC: Intermediate Open Supersport
    CMRA: Heavyweight Amateur

    WCC: Expert Open Supersport
    CMRA: Heavyweight Expert

Please note that these 2 classes race together as Race #4 on our Schedule.

    WCC: BOTT/Formula Thunder
    CMRA: Open Thunder

Please note that this is Race #5 on our schedule.

    WCC: Intermediate Superbike
    CMRA: Open Superbike

    WCC: Expert Superbike
    CMRA: Open Superbike

Amateur and Expert riders race together in the Open Superbike race. Superbike is a money class with a $100 entry fee and the payouts for this class are shown on page 42 of the rule book. CMRA points and payouts are based on the finishing order regardless of whether you are an Expert or Amateur. However, for WCC Scoring, we will be breaking the class into Expert and Amateur (Intermediate) and awarding the points separately for the WCC.

When looking at the schedule, we encourage anyone with 125 Rear Wheel HP or less to sign up for the Middleweight Superbike money class. If you are over 35, join in the Senior Open but remember the Middleweight (aka 600 WCC Class) is right after. If you bike is over 10 years old, sign up for Sportsman and if your Ducati is under the 118 HP limit, sign up for the Ducati Cup. Remember if in doubt, the CMRA has a dyno at the track, and it is available for you to check your HP before the race. And if you are riding a Ducati 1098 and try to sign up for the 118 HP Ducati Cup, we will send you there first! :D

    Schedule:
A race day schedule may be found at http://www.roadracing.org/calendar.html in the middle of the Race Day Handout. For the Double Header, the race day schedule that is typical for Sunday only will apply for both days with the exception of 1 more practice session on Saturday.

    Accommodations:
I have posted elsewhere that there are 2 hotel deals for the weekend. One is at Deerfoot Casino and the other at the Glenmore Inn. They are both close to the track. Camping in RV/Trailers is allowed at the track but the when the gates lock at night there are no in and out privileges. The very rugged have pitched a tent on the gravel parking lot.

If you need additional information or have any questions, please email me directly at joe.p@canyontech.ca and I will do my best to help you. I am asking that the questions come this way. If they are of common interest, or address something I have not covered here, I will add information to this post to keep it all in one spot.

I request that you do not respond to this post as it will clutter the information trail for those who are navigating our club and this event for the first time. I will add all new info to all 3 clubs forums as I get it. The CMRA will also do everything we can to assist the visitors and make a safe and enjoyable race weekend.

Thank you and we sincerely look forward to hosting the last round of the WCC.

    Yours truly,
    Joe P.

    Hi Folks!

Another quick update to all 3 forums of the WMRC, EMRA, and CMRA.

We have had some people registering on line and leaving a few details out. Please make sure you put your email address on so that if there is some info we have to track down we can find you! Transponder number are important to register too.

Thanks so much to those who already started! You are making it easier already. Don?t forget you have no way of losing if you pre-register even if you are looking like a maybe because you can pay at the track when you arrive.

    Thanks!
    Joe P.

Thank you to everyone who came to Calgary for the WCC rounds 5 and 6!

While everyone probably knows where they are in the standings, we will be tabulating this weekend's "Official" results and sending them to your club's WCC representative to post on your forum.

I want to personally thank every member of your club that participated in any of the 3 rounds. This was a great inaugural season and every club learned a few things that will make it better next year!

The CMRA is hopeful that the city council vote will turn over and we will get another 5 years at Race City.

    Stay tuned for the results!

    Best regards,
    Joe P.
