The March general meeting was called to order at 7:01 by Jason Hanson.

    In attendance:
    Jason Hanson-President
    Steve McKenna – Vice President
    Brett Hanson – Treasurer
    Jay Tait – Promotions

    8 members and 3 members

Previous business: The minutes from the February general meeting were read by Jason Hanson. We are still looking for a food vendor for every round. As promised Alex made enquiries with Mission area restaurants but had no success. If anyone knows someone that might be interested please let someone on the executive know.

Treasury report: The opening bank balance was $33,612.64. Race school registrations and membership renewals brought in $6764.95. Expenses include: Psigate (credit card merchant account), BDO Taxes, Smithright hay bale disposal, race school supplies, hay bale supplies/plastic, and the deposit for ambulance service for our first round. Insurance is estimated at $10,085.95 bringing our total expenses to $15,813.10. This leaves a balance to $17,799.54.

Promotions report: Jay reported that four classes currently have sponsors and that we are continuing to canvas for more, inquiries have been made with some local business in Mission.

Classes that have received sponsorship for our 2016 season are:

    Superbike - Modern Motorcycles
    600 Supersport - JFC Steel
    250 production - Expatria Technologies
    Sportsman - JFC Steel

The Western Canadian Gold Cup Series will be part of the May 22,23 WMRC race weekend. There will also be two rounds at Greg Moore Raceway in Chilliwack and two rounds at Cariboo Raceway in Quesnel.

Jay continues to work on the Race of Champions. He is also talking to Yamaha and Kawasaki for sponsorship.

New business: Jason reminded everyone that all vendors selling products or offering services at any WMRC event must carry their own insurance.

The hay bale party will be on Saturday, April 2nd. Nick Goodall has rented a truck and is coordinating the pickup of the hay bales. In addition to needing people at the track that day we need a few people to help Nick load the bales into the truck in Cloverdale. Anyone that is available to help Nick please email WMRConline@gmail.com and Nick will get in touch with you.

Alex asked if we could get club email addresses setup using our domain name i.e. rulebookcommittee@wmrc.ca etc. Brett said he would look into it.

There was a lot of discussion surrounding the 2016 rulebook, dyno testing. And why the rulebook committee had specified a dynojet dynamometer. The club will not have a dyno at each race but there could be one at any round to enforce hp limits. The hope is track day riders will use the dyno services and offset or perhaps cover the cost of having the dyno vendor at the track. Concern was voiced regarding the possibility of a rider showing up at a track day solely to do a dyno run and blowing over our sound limit.

Jay Tait mentioned having his old 250 protested several years ago and the dyno run blew the motor. The bike produced 11hp less on the run than the rules allowed.

The rulebook committee had proposed changes to the approval of riders without valid race licenses wishing to compete in single events. This would include a mandatory ‘check out’ at a track day prior to the race date. This proposal was rejected and the requirements specified in the 2015 rulebook will continue.

A proposal to require visiting racers to buy associate club memberships was also rejected.

It was agreed that class sponsors should disperse any prize money rather than the club doing it.

There was discussion about novice racers having to wear reflective vests at least for their first race weekend. Nikola suggested yellow t-shirts instead. The graduation process from novice to graduated novice to expert will be clarified further in the rulebook.
Wrist bands will need to be worn when bringing your bike through tech inspection.

Belly pans will be mandatory for all race bikes. Belly pans must be removed for tech. If the belly pan of a particular bike is difficult to remove the rider can apply for an exemption.

Alex said the rule book should be finalized this week.

John Cathie motioned to adjourn the meeting at 8:24. The motion was accepted and then seconded by Alex.

I'd like to cover a few of the points that some had issues with:

    - The reason Dynojet was chosen as the type of dynamometer was two-fold: 1) they are the most common portable dyno in Canada and, 2) The variables will be negligible between dyno's, compared to doing a run on a Factory Pro style dyno that would read 10-15% less than Dynojet models.
    - Having an engine failure during a dyno run is bizarre to say the least. Dyno's put no more stress on an engine than racing around the track, so that engine obviously had a part about to fail anyway.
    - Easy fix for the point about loud street bikes running on the dyno: make the dyno use for track day riders only, no drop in's.

I'ld like to cover a few of the points that some had issues with:

-Specifying Dynojet dyno make sense to me for the reasons covered at the meeting.

-Having an engine failure during a dyno run is bizzare to say the least. Dyno's only put undue stress on cold tires. We didn't "blow the motor" on my bike, but did stress valve guide seals that were past their prime and on decel it filled the surrounding pits with smoke.

I would really like to see the 2016 rulebook up and available for racers as soon as possible, lets start racing already!

Thanks for the clarifications Jay. I thought meeting minutes should cover the discussion that follows any "new" business so we can actually see what the exec decides (if any decisions or points were made).

If at all possible, I would like to see the dyno on the very first race weekend.

    Reasons being as follows:

    • If anyone were to blow over during the season, there would be immediate outcry that a rider had been cheating all year long
    • motors are theoretically at their freshest
    • shows that the club is serious about policing

Good points Ryan. Hopefully we will make that happen.
