I would like to get a head start on bike prep while I have some time and the 2012 rule book isn't posted yet. Can someone post a link or email me an older version of the rules so I can start working on the bike. I heard something about oil catch pans and this seems like it will require a bit of fabricating. (I did search the forums for info but didn't find much) Thanks, Steve
Thanks Mel. Unfortunately I can't open the file, getting an error message saying it is damaged. I tried googling "westwood motorcycle rule book" and sure enough it found a link to the old document on the WMRC web site.
What kind of bike are you running? The oil catch can is usually built into the fairing with most aftermarket race fairing kits. If you are running a naked bike then yeah, you will need to put something together. Unless you're talking about the catch can from the crankcase, in which case with most bikes you can simply use the existing airbox as the catch can and plug the airbox drain lines. Lots of people use a beer can though.
The bike is a 1988 GSXR with aftermarket header and fairing. There is only a 1/4" clearance between the header and bottom of oil pan. The fairing does not have a complete bottom to provide clearance for the pipes (the header sticks out below the fairing) It will be a bit of a chalange but I'll come up with something.
Im pretty sure you will have to have a oil catch pan underneath that motor, as in the fairing will need a completely sealed bottom.
I would agree but also add that the bottom fairing needs to be one solid piece and have a lip on each end to hold the liquid in place.
basically, these guys are describing standard race fiberglass. You should be able to find a set at Flexiglass, or someone must have some old bodywork kicking around. I'd contact Marbod at Mspeed to see if he knows where you can source some. He's the old Suzuki king for that kind of stuff. You could also try Aaron and Murray at Modern as well.
I've got a set of 00-03 thrashed bodywork I'm getting rid of for $50. I've also got a near-new, primed black set I would consider selling. Give me a shout via PM.
Completely untrue. My 89 750RR has the Yosh kit upper and a Honda 929 lower, the only thing that matched up-after Trevor at Flexi-glass modified the hell out of it- and was legal. Tailpiece is 750RR.
Another novice question. The rule book says stock muffler for bikes upto 750cc. My bike is a 750 bored to 813cc. Does it still require a stock muffler? My current muffler is an Arrow but has a dB killer plug. If yes then I will find a used can from a 600cc or larger bike. thanks, Steve
What class(es) are you going to run the bike in? You said it's an '88? If that is true then I would say anything that keeps it below 88dB's is allowed.
Wow, that is not a typo. It is an 88. (just reread beginning of thread). The way I see it a pre 90's bike only has the following rules applying to it: 1. it must meet the 88 dB sound restriction 2. it must be mechanically sound 3. it must be safety wired according to the rule book 4. it must have an oil catch pan. Like anyone would have the balls to protest a 1988 bike... LMAO!
